Experts from Geely Automobile Research Institute Visit the School of Mechanical Engineering for Industry-University-Research Exchange

On September 8, Dr. Yang Heping—an internationally renowned technical expert in the field of automotive safety, a national innovative talent, and a senior chief engineer of Geely Automobile Research Institute—and Engineer Liu Chong, a safety technology expert, visited the School of Mechanical Engineering of our university. They conducted exchanges on industry-university-research cooperation and gave a special academic report to teachers and students of the university as guests of the "Boya Forum".

At the beginning of the event, Li Jianyu, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Mechanical Engineering, Li Wenhui, Dean of the School, Li Ya, Vice Dean, Li Haiyan, Director of the International Joint Research Center for Modern Automotive Safety Technology, and other teacher and student representatives warmly received the visiting guests and held a discussion.

At the forum, Secretary Li Jianyu extended a warm welcome to Dr. Yang Heping and his team on behalf of all teachers and students, and introduced the new development achievements of the school in various undertakings since the implementation of the university's "Pioneer Plan".Dean Li Wenhui gave a comprehensive introduction to the school in terms of discipline construction, talent cultivation, scientific research characteristics and research achievements.Dr. Yang Heping and Engineer Liu Chong systematically introduced the organizational structure of Geely Automobile Research Institute and the latest research progress in the field of vehicle safety, and highly praised the outstanding performance of our university's graduates in Geely Automobile Co., Ltd.The two parties conducted in-depth exchanges on scientific research cooperation, achievement transformation and talent cultivation.

After the forum, the visiting guests visited the Artificial Intelligence Practice Base and conducted on-site special technical discussions with teachers and students of the Research Team on Injury Biomechanics and Transportation Safety Digitization. Dr. Yang Heping highly appraised the team's achievements in the field of injury biomechanics and automotive safety, and put forward constructive suggestions for future development. Both parties agreed to further expand, deepen and solidify subsequent cooperation on the basis of existing cooperation.

In the afternoon, Dr. Yang Heping gave an academic report titled "The Development of Automotive Safety and Our Responsibility". The report was hosted by Li Wenhui, Dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering, and attended by more than 100 teachers and students. In the report, combining his own academic and scientific research experience, Dr. Yang systematically reviewed the development history of automotive safety technology and focused on the safety R&D practices of multiple brand models under Geely.

He particularly emphasized the key role of artificial intelligence (AI) in automotive safety, pointing out that AI not only promotes the rapid iteration of vehicle body structure optimization and occupant/pedestrian protection design, but also shows great potential in autonomous driving, intelligent perception, collision prediction and other fields. With the continuous development of intelligent connected technology, AI will play an increasingly important role in active safety, preventive control and the construction of a comprehensive traffic safety ecosystem, providing technical support for realizing the future travel social scenario of "zero casualties and zero accidents".

At the same time, Dr. Yang Heping encouraged young students to bravely integrate into the wave of AI development, adhere to their original aspirations, dare to question, take on responsibilities, treat every scientific research exploration with awe, and jointly contribute the wisdom and strength of Chinese engineers to the beautiful vision of "zero casualties" in traffic accidents.

After the lecture, teachers and students on site actively asked questions about automotive safety technology development, evaluation methods and personal career development planning. Dr. Yang Heping and Engineer Liu Chong gave detailed answers one by one, sharing cutting-edge scientific research and industrial application experience, and putting forward pertinent suggestions for young students based on their personal growth experiences. The interaction session was warm and harmonious, further narrowing the distance between experts and teachers and students.

This exchange activity fully demonstrated the university's profound accumulation in the research field of automotive safety and intelligent technology, and built a closer platform for university-enterprise cooperation. Through discussions, technical exchanges and academic lectures, the school and Geely Automobile Research Institute reached a further consensus on scientific research cooperation, achievement transformation and talent cultivation. In the future, the two parties will take the integrated development of automotive safety and AI as an opportunity to jointly promote key technological innovation and achievement application. Guided by the "Pioneer Plan", our university will continue to give play to its scientific research advantages in injury biomechanics, intelligent safety and other directions, continuously improve its ability to serve national strategies and industry development, and contribute "Tianjin University of Science and Technology Wisdom" and "Tianjin University of Science and Technology Strength" to building a strong transportation country and a strong automobile country.
